As a single and childless woman, I personally don't find anything painful about Mother's Day. However, I do like to point to Julia Ward Howe's "Mother's Day Appeal" to the women of the world not to send their sons to kill each other, even though it sounds antiquated now that women are killing each other alongside men and taking that as gender equity.
